TRAINING ON ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY MONITORING, IN SUPPORT OF PILOT PROJECTS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE AUDIT

20 personnel consisting environmental officers, forest management unit (FMU) coordinator, surveyors and safety officers from eight (8) Sarawak Timber Association (STA) member companies that had volunteered to undertake the Pilot Projects for Environmental Compliance Audit participated in the “Training on Environmental Quality Monitoring” from 30th January to 1st February 2018 at Kemena Hotel, Bintulu.  Click here for more information.

WORKSHOP TO IDENTIFY GAPS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN IMPLEMENTING FOREST MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION IN SARAWAK

In response to this announcement, Sarawak Timber Association (STA) and Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) joinly organised a workshop to identify gaps and opportunities in implementing forest management certification (FMC) in Sarawak from 5 to 6 February 2018 at Wisma STA, Kuching. CONSERVATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME FOR FOREST MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION BATCH 2018

SARAWAK TIMBER ASSOCIATION TO GIVE CASH AWARDS TO OUTSTANDING SPM AND STPM STUDENTS WHO EXCELLED IN THEIR EXAMINATIONS FOR YEAR 2017

The STA Cash Awards is organized by STA Mutual Sdn Bhd (STAM), a subsidiary company of Sarawak Timber Association (STA) to encourage and give recognition to students from Sarawak who had excelled in their SPM and STPM public examinations. Entering its third year of giving the Cash Awards, the Association had received applications from students throughout Sarawak, and selected a total number of 1,465 students, of which 1,067 are SPM students and 398 are STPM students. Click here  for more information.

STA ENCOURAGES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN FOREST PLANTATION

KUCHING: Sarawak Timber Association (STA), through the STA Forest Plantation Committee, committed to the forest plantation development programme through encouraging and funding research and development (R&D) projects that will bring benefits to the Members of STA. Since 2004, STA has funded R&D projects to a tune of about RM6 million, aiding and supporting eight (8) research projects that are related to forest plantation establishment in the State. Click here for more information.

STA PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FIRE VICTIMS OF SK BATU BUNGAN, MULU

SARAWAK TIMBER ASSOCIATION (STA) COUNCIL CELEBRATES ITS 100TH MEETING

The Sarawak Timber Association (STA) has reached a milestone today, celebrating the 100th meeting of its Council from the time of STA’s re-structuring exercise in 1988. STA began as a modest organisation since its formation on 7 August 1971 in Sibu by three (3) founding members, the Fourth Division Timber Merchants Association, the First and Second Division Sawmillers’ Association and the Third Division and Bintulu District Sawmillers’ Association as an umbrella association for smaller associations based on Divisions to look after the interest of the timber industry and serve as a vehicle to liaise with the Government. Click here for more information.

CONTINUED COLLABORATION DRIVEN BY COMMITMENT TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

NREB and STA displayed yet another significant milestone in their long term collaborative relationships in the recently concluded “Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony for the Second Batch of Pilot Projects for Environmental Compliance Audit”. The event held on 29 November 2018 at Wisma STA was attended by approximately 100 representatives from STA member companies, Ministry of Urban Development and Natural Resources, government agencies such as Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd (SFCSB), Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd, Department of Environment (DOE) as well as higher institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Swinburne University of Technology. Click here for more information.
