EFFECTIVE CONSULTATIONS WITH BUSINESSES IN IMPLEMENTING TPPA

The Sarawak Timber Association noted the Dewan Rakyat approved a motionon 27 January 2016 allowing Malaysia’s participation in the Trans-PacificPartnership Agreement (TPPA) to strengthen our country’s competitiveness atthe regional and global levels. The Government would now be required toamend the existing laws, policies and practices to be in line with the variousChapters detailed in TPPA within the timeframe stipulated, which is 2 years after signing TPPA. Click here for more information.

IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW LEVIES RATES FOR FOREIGN WORKERS IN MALAYSIA

The Sarawak Timber Association (STA) is aware of the Government’s goal of elevating labour market efficiency to accelerate economic growth and her effort to reduce the nation’s dependency on foreign workers progressively. INSIGNIFICANCE OF ILLEGAL LOGGING IN SARAWAK

STA SAYS NO TO THE UNUTILISED 30% OF LEVY CONTRIBUTIONS FROM EMPLOYERS FOR 1MALAYSIAGRIP TO CONSOLIDATED FUND ON 1 APRIL 2016

The Association is disappointed with the lack of transparency and consultation on how Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB)
manages the fund contributed by employers pursuant to Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad Act (2001) (PSMB 2001). The Association understands that since June last year, 30% of the total fund paid by PSMB registered employers has been placed in employer’s individual 1Malaysia Globally Recognised Industry Professional Certificate Programme (1MalaysiaGRIP) account. Click here for more information.

SCHOOLS IN THE LIMBANG AND LAWAS DISTRICTS GET A HELPING HAND FROM SARAWAK TIMBER INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND SARAWAK TIMBER ASSOCIATION

A total of 61 Primary and 9 Secondary Schools in the Limbang and Lawas districts of Sarawak recently received financial assistances from YB Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) who is also the Minister of Resource Planning & Environment II cum Minister of Public Utilities/ Minister of Industrial Development at a function jointly organised by GIATMARA and the Lawas District Education office at Gelanggang Bola Keranjang Lawas. Click here for more information.

STUDENTS OF SPM AND STPM WHO EXCELLED IN THEIR EXAMINATIONS FOR YEAR 2015 TO RECEIVE CASH AWARDS FROM SARAWAK TIMBER ASSOCIATION

A total of 452 and 169 students who had sat the SPM and STPM examinations respectively in year 2015 had been selected to receive Cash Awards. Out of the total, 254 students of SPM and 80 students of STPM are from schools in Kuching District. These students will be receiving the Cash Awards in Presentation Ceremony organized by Sarawak Timber Association, which to be held at 10 am on 8 September 2016 at Wisma STA, Kuching. Click here for more information.
