STA SUPPORTS FORMATION OF TASK FORCE TO ADDRESS FLOATING WOOD DEBRIS INCIDENT

STA is grateful to the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) and other agencies for carrying out speedy preliminary ground verification and aerial surveillance in connection with the reported ‘logjam’, and confirming that the ‘logjam’ was caused by the wood debris being pushed into the river by the heavy and prolonged downpour of rain and accumulating at the Baleh Hydroelectric dam site. STOP INACCURATE STATEMENT ON ALLEGED ILLEGAL LOGGING ACTIVITIES

Sarawak Timber Association (STA) is perturbed by the publication of unverified illegal logging activities. For instance, the recent formal public statement on illegal logging operation made by Battalion 10 Sibu General Operations Force (GOF) following their raids in Selangau, Sibu, which was subsequently published in various local newspapers on 27 July 2021. STA’s First Virtual Annual General Meeting

The Sarawak Timber Association (STA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2021 in full virtual proceedings for the first time on 30 December 2021. The virtual meeting received good attendance response from members throughout Sarawak, allowing them to exercise their rights to participate and vote safely and remotely, as concerns regarding the COVID-19 situation remained.
