The Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) and STA Training Sdn Bhd (STAT), a training arm
of Sarawak Timber Association (STA), are pleased to announce the successful completion
of the Log Scaling Course, held from 22 to 24 April 2025 at Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu. This
collaborative initiative aimed to enhance industry knowledge and skills in log
measurement and scaling, thereby reinforcing sustainable forestry practices and accurate
timber valuation.

PRESS RELEASE: Sarawak Timber Association Annual General Meeting 2025
The Sarawak Timber Association (STA) successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025 on 28 March 2025 at Wisma STA. The AGM was chaired by Dato Henry Lau, Chairman, with the support of all the Office Bearers in attendance. JOINT MEDIA STATEMENT: Strengthening Environmental Compliance across Sectors
The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) is committed to safeguarding the environment and conserving Sarawak’s natural resources, in line with the principles of sustainable development. To enhance environmental compliance and risk assessment in project development, the NREB introduced the Natural Resources and Environment (Audit) Rules, 2008, which were gazette on 31 December 2008 and came into force on 1 January 2013. The Rules aim to improve regulatory adherence, mitigate environmental risks and promote self-regulation among project proponents.

MEDIA STATEMENT: Hefty FWTA Charges: STA Calls for Action to Alleviate the Burden on Industry
The Sarawak Timber Association (STA) is taken aback by the abrupt implementation of the Foreign Workers Transformation Approach (FWTA) system by the Sarawak Government. This sudden imposition of RM1,854.00 per worker charges, without adequate prior consultation or preparation, places an unwarranted financial strain on industries. Such measures threaten the competitiveness and sustainability of Sarawak’s industries in both regional and international markets. STA firmly urges the Sarawak Government to defer the implementation of these charges and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders to ensure a balanced, fair, and conducive regulatory framework for the industry’s long-term development.
