cSTA Sustainable Forest Management (STASFM) Programme – Continuing Education

As part of the Postgraduate programme offered jointly by STA and Lincoln University of New Zealand, the subject “Communities and the Forest Industry” will be delivered from 16 to 22 July 2016 at Wisma STA, Kuching.

The topics included in this subject are as follows:

  1. Non-Wood Forest Products
  2. Social Survey Methods
  3. Sociology of Local Communities
  4. Society, Forest Use and Forest Policy
  5. Conflict Resolution
  6. Social Impact Assessment
  7. Project – Survey of NTFP Use in a Community
Member of STA who wish to further their knowledge in this subject are welcome to attend it on a Continuing Education basis (i.e. single subject only).  As this course will be conducted outside Kuching for a whole week, participation in this subject shall be limited on “first-come, first-served” basis.  No fees will be charged for attending this subject but participant shall be responsible for travel to the venue of the course, accommodation and other travel-related expenses.  Participant is also required to bring laptop for data analysis study and field attire for field work during the whole week of the course.

We  are  rewarding  300  outstanding  secondary students schools in each category in the Kuching Division (covers Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Padawan and Sematan), Sibu Division (covers Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau), Bintulu Division (covers Bintulu, Tatau and Sebauh), Miri Division (covers Miri, Marudi, Sibuti, Niah-Suai, Beluru and Long Lama) and Limbang Division. (covers Limbang, Lawas, Ng. Medamit, Sundar and Trusan).

  5. First-come, first-served basis based on receipt date of the application forms. Should number of applications received before the closing date exceeds the number allocated, the top 300 in each category will be chosen.
  6. No appeal will be entertained.

Minimum Wages Order 2016 (P.U (A) 116/2016)

The Minimum Wage Order 2016 was gazetted on 29 April 2016 in accordance with Subsection 23 (1) of the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011.

A minimum wage of RM1,000 a month or RM4.81 per hour has been set for private sector workers in Peninsular Malaysia and RM920 a month or RM4.42 per hour for workers in Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan effective 1 July 2016.

Press Release - "Schools in the Limbang and Lawas Districts get a helping hand from Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation and Sarawak Timber Association"

A total of sixty one (61) Primary and nine (9) Secondary Schools in the Limbang and Lawas districts of Sarawak recently received financial assistances from Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).  This collaborative project between STIDC and STA Mutual Sdn Bhd (STAM), a subsidiary company of Sarawak Timber Association (STA) aims to provide a conducive environment for learning or teaching in schools through improving facilities in the selected schools.  Please click here for the Press Release.

IMPLEMENTATION OF HRDF POOL FUND

The Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB) held a briefing on the implementation of Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) Pool Fund at Pullman Hotel Kuching on 26 April 2016.

The objective of the briefing is to inform registered employers on the implementation details of the 30% pool fund through certification, development programmes or activities that correspond within the Government’s strategic agenda and the advancement of technology system and processes  within the industries in order to enhance the employers’ level of competitiveness.
