A Certificate in Tree Felling – Chainsaw (Natural Forest) is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in felling trees in a commercial natural forest harvesting operation. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, basic maintenance of chainsaw and felling of trees safely by using proper techniques that minimise breakage and facilitate log extraction.

A Certificate in Log Extraction – Tractor (Natural Forest) is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in handling and operating a tractor to extract logs from the felling site to a landing point. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, maintenance of a tractor (crawler or skidder), pre-start check, shut down procedure and operational requirements for log extraction.

 

Units of study:          

  • Unit 1256: Demonstrate Knowledge of the Log Extraction Process
  • Unit 6936: Operate a Tracked Machine in a Forestry Situation
  • Unit 6937: Extract Logs to a Landing

 

A Certificate in Log Loading – Front End Loader (Natural Forest) is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in operating a log loader to handle logs for loading onto a logging truck and unloading logs from a logging truck safely. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, basic maintenance of a log loader, pre-start check, shut down procedure, moving logs from stack and position logs securely on a logging truck.

 

Unit of study:

  • Unit 6926: Demonstrate Knowledge of the Log Landing Process
  • Unit 6930: Operate a Forked Loader in Forestry or Log Yard Situation
  • Unit 6932: Load a Logging Truck

A Certificate in Clear-fell Site Preparation – Chainsaw (Forest Plantation) is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in operating a chainsaw in clearing land for forest establishment. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, maintenance of the chainsaw and the use of chainsaw for land clearing operations.

The scope of training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, basic excavator maintenance, pre-start check, shut down procedure, the operational use of excavator for the preparation of forest planting sites, including spreading and crushing.

The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, clear-fell forest harvesting operations, maintenance of cable hauler, cable harvesting equipment, system, rigging, usage of wire ropes in forest harvesting, communication use in cable hauler operation, planning & setting up cable hauler and responsibilities in carrying out a cable hauler operation.

The scope of training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, clear-fell forest harvesting operations, usage of wire ropes in forest harvesting, communication use in cable hauler operation, maintaining rigging, coordinate breaking out process and also plan & carry out lineshifts.

The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, clear-fell forest harvesting operations, maintenance of excavator type loader, pre-start check and shut down procedure, log marking, log grading, moving logs from stack and position logs securely on a logging truck.

TREE & LOG AND LOG & TIMBER IDENTIFICATION SKILLS SET

 

A Certificate in Tree & Log Identification is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in identifying tree species in forests and also log species at log landing points. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, usage of recommended tools and equipment, identify tree species by examining leaf, bark and types of buttress and identifying log species by examining outer bark.

  • Unit 20020: Tree Identification
  • Unit 20021: Log Identification

 

A Certificate in Log & Timber Identification is awarded to an operator who has demonstrated competence in identifying log species and timber species. The scope of the training covers skills and knowledge in safety and health, usage of recommended tools and equipment, identify log species by examining outer bark, identify timber species by examining the anatomical features and basic timber identification techniques.

Activity/Certificate on the Delivery of Adult Education and Training

 

A Certificate in Train-the-Trainer Course is awarded to an operator who aims to enhance his knowledge, skills and abilities to establish effective communication in delivering training to adults’ learners at the workplace. Candidates will be given the insight of preparing for the unexpected while carrying out training, best method in managing various training situations and keeping accurate training records and documenting the training related documents.

 

Units of study:

  • Unit 7108: Delivery On-Job Training to Adults

 

Candidates will be taught on:

  • analysing, design, develop, implement and evaluate the deliverance of skills training according to the standards
  • how to delivery on-job training in the workplace which include explanation, demonstration and practices and modify the delivery of training to accommodate the learning situation, resource ability, learners needs and time constraints

 

A Certificate in Assessor Course is awarded to an operator to enhance his knowledge in preparing, conducting, recording and reviewing the assessment. They can be the internal assessor of the company and shall be responsible in carrying out a pre-assessment of their companies’ forest workmen, prior to the official assessment to be conducted by an approved Training Provider.

 

Unit of study:

  • Unit 4098: Use Standards to Assess Candidate Performance

 

Candidates will be taught on:

  • the purpose of assessment;
  • theory of assessment;
  • practical assessment and understanding standards of the module skill set;
  • preparing candidates for assessment;
  • legal and company compliance;
