STA Scholarship

STAM has been providing scholarships to local students pursuing degree courses related to forestry and timber trade industry initially to students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) since 2005 but later extended to students from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus (SUTS) and Curtin University of Technology Sarawak (CURTIN) to pursue their Bachelor in Engineering courses. As at June 2016, eighteen (18) STA Scholarship recipients had graduated from UNIMAS, UPM and SUTS. 

Currently, STA Scholarships are offered to students in UNIMAS, UPM, CURTIN and SUTS for the following:-

  1. Bachelor of Science with Honours (Plant Resources Science & Management) at UNIMAS
  2. Bachelor of Forestry Science at UPM
  3. Bachelor of Wood Science and Technology at UPM
  4. Bachelor of Parks and Recreation Science at UPM
  5. Bachelor in Engineering at CURTIN
  6. Bachelor in Engineering at SUTS


Terms and Conditions for applying STA Scholarships to study in the respective universities

i) Students studying in UNIMAS

  • Must be a Sarawakian or of Sarawakian parentage (either parent must be a Sarawakian)
  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in Bachelor of Science with Honours (Plant Resources Science & Management) course
  • Only students currently studying in Semester 2, Year 1 will be considered
  • Minimum of CGPA of 2.75 and once awarded, to maintain this grade
  • Monthly household income of RM7,000.00 and below for two-parent income and RM4,000.00 for a single-parent income
  • Tenable for a maximum of 3 years (or until the candidate completes the degree, if candidate completes the degree earlier).
  • Value of scholarship is RM8,000.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Eight Thousand) per academic year
  • Bonded with member companies of STA for 3 years upon completing the course


ii) Students studying in UPM

  • Must be a Sarawakian or of Sarawakian parentage (either parent must be a Sarawakian)
  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in Bachelor of Forestry Science, Bachelor of Wood Science and Technology OR Bachelor of Parks and Recreational Science course
  • Only students currently studying in Semester 2, Year 1 will be considered
  • Minimum of CGPA of 2.75 and once awarded, to maintain this grade
  • Monthly household income of RM7,000.00 and below for two-parent income and RM4,000.00 for a single-parent income
  • Tenable for a maximum of 4 years (or until the candidate completes the degree, if candidate completes the degree earlier).
  • Value of scholarship is RM10,000.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Ten Thousand) per academic year
  • Bonded with member companies of STA for 3 years upon completing the course


iii) Students studying in CURTIN & SUTS

  • Must be a Sarawakian or of Sarawakian parentage (either parent must be a Sarawakian)
  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in any Engineering DEGREE Programme
  • Only students currently studying in Semester 2, Year 1 will be considered
  • Minimum of CGPA of 3.20 and once awarded, to maintain this grade
  • Monthly household income of RM7,000.00 and below for two-parent income and RM4,000.00 for a single-parent income
  • Tenable for a maximum of 4 years (or until the candidate completes the degree, if candidate completes the degree earlier).
  • Value of the scholarship given will be the actual Semester Tuition Fee of the respective universities
  • Bonded with member companies of STA for 2 years upon completing the course


Advertisements inviting applications for the STA Scholarships will be done in the month of March in UNIMAS & UPM, and in the month of August in CURTIN and SUTS every year. Mr Wong How Chu was awarded the STA Scholarship in year 2008.He graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Plant Resource Science and Management from UNIMAS in year 2011.

      Mr Ogary Kinshen anak Migas, was awarded the STA Scholarship in year 2009. He graduated with Bachelor of Science with Honours (Plant Resource Science and Management) in year 2012 and Master of Science majoring in Botany in UNIMAS in year 2013.

Ms Dayang Nur Ainnayana Binti Abang Bohari was awarded with STA Bonded Scholarship in year 2013. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Plant Resource Science and Management from UNIMAS in year 2015.
