STA Exhibition Centre showcases products and work done by its members. It serves as an education and focal point for information related to forest and timber industry in Sarawak.

Multimedia and Research Information Assistant (MARIA)

Hosting close to 10 gigabytes (approximately 5,300 files) of information collected over the past 15 years, MARIA is certainly the pride and joy of STA. It is STA’s privilege to share this invaluable information with the interested public. 

MARIA, currently available on-site only, has information covering upstream and downstream forests industries, legislations & standards and industry statistics. MARIA also has a good selection of seminar papers related to the forest and timber industry. All these and much more can be accessed at the click of a mouse.

Displays & Exhibits

Physical Exhibits

The items displayed in the Centre are not only products from the forests but also timber products produced by STA members and forestry-related Government Agencies. The items on display include:

  • Selected seeds & leaves from the forests
  • Sliced and peeled Veneers (60 samples on display)
  • Types of plywood, particleboard, medium density fibreboard (MDF)
  • Laminated flooring and truck flooring

Other exhibits include models of equipment used in harvesting, local musical instruments, traditional utensils and also relevant reference books.

Multimedia Screens

The Centre uses modern multimedia technology for effective dissemination of information; one such technology is video streaming deployed in the electronic displays which can be activated by visitors at any time. The video clips are:

  • Full listing of STA Membership 
  • Corporate videos, from members and STA 
  • Plywood and Sawntimber processes 
  • Biodiversity in Lanjak-Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary


Information Kiosks

There are 4 touch screen kiosks at the Centre where visitors can obtain information literally at their “finger tips”.  

  • Market Information - Timber products export statistics in terms of volume, value, destinations and by ports
  • Downstream forests activities - Information on use and manufacturing processes of sawntimber, plywood, charcoal, Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), furniture, etc
  • Upstream forests activities - Information and statistics on natural forests as well as planted forests, and Fire Danger Rating System
  • R&D and Training - Information on STA Training Sdn Bhd, subsidiary company of STA. Includes 2 main programmes i.e. Research and Development (R&D) and Training

STA Exhibition Centre

STA Exhibition Centre (STAEC) was established to showcase products and work done by its members and forestry-related Government Agencies. It also serves as an education and promotion focal point for information related to the forest and timber industry in Sarawak. The Centre was officially declared open by YAB Pehin Sri (Dr.) Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud on 16 May 2005, the then Chief Minister of Sarawak.

The Centre has physical exhibits, information kiosks and electronic displays to show pictorial information and videos of forests, biodiversity, upstream and downstream forestry activities. The Centre also has two Multimedia and Research Information Assistant (MARIA) Terminals which allow researchers to access more than 10 years worth of statistics, data and relevant documents. The Centre’s twelve computer servers are being constantly updated with new information ensuring that it is up to date.

The Centre takes up 460m2 of Level 4 in Wisma STA and is open to the public free of charge.

Mondays - Fridays 9.00 am - 12.30 pm
  1.30 pm - 4.30 pm
Saturdays 8.30 am - 12.00 noon
Sundays & Public holidays      Closed
(Closed on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month)
